Society Meeting – a sale, a coffee, and no thesis in sight

August 28th, 2009 at 13:38

The Society will meet at Three Bags Full at noon on Sunday to indulge in the anniversary sale, then retreat to a local purveyor of coffee and similar beverages to knit, oggle purchases, and dither about adding one more discounted hank to considerable collections.

This meeting is open to anyone who either has no current thesis stress, or desperately needs a break from thesis stress.

I’m thesising like a fiend and may just show up. I’m inclined to be unpredictable. My apologies.

Nonetheless, I’m going to shamelessly court advice about shaping a sweater. I took out too many stitches too fast, and I’m left giggling at the dramatic jut that my sweater takes just my rib cage. Does anyone else have a mostly-rectangular trunk that they’ve had to work with? Sigh…

I’m always surprised, but a little shaping goes a long way. Can you frog back to pre-shaping and just go a bit easier? I’ve found a very gentle decrease (say, k2tog ssk paired at each side “seam” for a total dec. of 4 stitches per row, every 2-4 rows) to be more than enough to get a bit of shape without accidentally getting super-clunky. Remember to keep notes on how many rows you decreased at what rate so you can mirror it for a gentle increase again over the hips.

Woo! Great advice :) I decreased 4 st. every other row for a few rows…I think I might go back and give my self three rows between…it came in quick! Thanks :)

Oh!! This sounds very tempting! And like the perfect opportunity for me to start a new project … also kind of dangerous – new knitting store (for me), yarn on sale … yay for sundays!
